Developer: Apex London Wall Hotel
Architect: ISA
Contractor: Tolent Construction

Description

This project involved the refurbishment and extension of a 1960s office building to form a luxury boutique 89 Bedroom hotel. The works included a lightweight double storey extension and a full recladding in stone. All services were renewed, including extensive drainage works. The hotel facilities include a gym, restaurant and bar; all fitted out to the highest standard. This was a difficult project in terms of the restraints of the retained elements and how they could be adapted to suit the new use.

This project won Best Large Commercial building at the 2009 LABC awards. The judges were impressed by the environmental credentials of bringing a poorly used building back into commercial use.

Our role

Our role was to advise the design team how to meet the functional requirements of the Building Regulations in areas where available guidance does not cover the same scenario as the project. Our flexible approach to novel situations allowed us to deal with any issue that occurred during all stages of the project.

Fantastic relations with the design team and contractors were a major contributing factor to the success of the project, and resulted in working with them on many occasions since.

Our staff

Project Surveyor: Mark Pundsack
M&E Engineer: Roger Jaggard
Drainage Engineer: Paul Stavers
