Description

The 11 storey Double Tree Hotel is one the largest hotels in the City of London with 583 rooms, conference facilities and a restaurant. Its notable features include one of London's largest living walls stretching the full height of the building, an impressive glass roof covering the internal courtyard and atrium and a roof top terrace bar offering fantastic views over to the Tower of London. By adopting various energy efficient technologies and strategies the new hotel was able to achieve a 'Very Good' BREEAM rating.

Our role

The District Surveyor's Office carried out full building control and Section 20 functions for this project. The excellent communication between the different teams allowed this project to succeed. This along with regular meetings and site inspections allowed any issues to be dealt with swiftly and enabled the use of innovative methods of construction and design. Off-site manufacturing of pre-cast concrete structural elements, bathroom pods and other elements reduced the programme time by three months. Our flexible approach ensured that this innovation still satisfied the Building Regulations.

If you are contemplating constructing a new hotel or undertaking alterations to an existing hotel, we are happy to assist you with any Building Regulation queries you may have and offer up to free pre-application advice. Please call 020 7332 1000 or email the District Surveyor's Office.
