lombard street project

Project team

Developer: Viridis Real Estate
Architect: GMW Architects
Contractor: Balfour Beatty
Mechanical and Electrical: Hoare Lea
Fire Engineering: Hoare Lea
Structural Consultant: Campbell Reith

Description

The project involved the construction of new office and retail accommodation behind retained facades to Lombard Street and Birchin Lane. It was proposed that despite being one storey taller than the original building, the new development would have a smaller overall mass due to the use of lightweight modern materials and methods of construction. Initial works included the demolition of the existing building and the construction of new retaining walls, cores and a basement slab. Subsequent works included the construction of a new steel framed structure and the installation of new glazed cladding panels.

Our role

We worked closely with the project team and in doing so were able to ensure that both the Building Regulations and the client were satisfied. Particular issues that occurred included the retention and integration of the retained facades to the building, which lies within a conservation area.

If you are contemplating constructing a new building or undertaking alterations to an existing building, we are happy to assist you with any Building Regulation queries you may have and offer free pre-application advice. Please call 020 7332 1000 or email the District Surveyor's Office.
