Walk: Epping Forest Health Walk (60 minutes)

New Starters Health Walk

A 30 minute health walk aimed at those who are new to walking and wanting to improve or regain fitness.

Walking for Health - brisk pace

Health Walks are free, volunteer led local walks aimed at people who would like to be a little more active. This is a brisk pace walk for regular walkers, meeting at St Mary's Church, Wanstead.

Taster session: Autumn identification of trees and plants

  • Epping Forest Visitor Centre at Chingford

Cathy McLoughlin is an experienced environmental educator and Lloyd Park's community gardener. Join her on a relaxing walk to enjoy the beautiful autumnal colours of the Forest and learn the names of trees and plants as you wander.

This event is for people aged 19+ only, and is run by the Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service in partnership with the City of London.

​A Midwinter Night's Dream: twilight family night

Families are invited to enjoy a preview twilight visit to our Midwinter installation. We’ve two enchanting gifts for each child to make and take home and a story and a Fairy Fruit drink and snack to enjoy in a flickering fire fly glade in the Hunting Lodge itself.

The activities are designed for children age 4-11 to take part with their carers.

Please note, we can only accept bookings for one adult per child maximum, and no more than three children per adult please.

Please note: babies are welcome in slings or car seat carriers, but we ask you please to leave your buggies at home or in your car as the Hunting Lodge is tight on space. Thanks.

A Midwinter Night's Dream: Christmas installation

Experience the midwinter enchantment of the magical Forest world of Shakespeare’s Titania and Oberon with a wander through the winter greenery and wild animals of their woodland world. Fairy wings available.

A Midwinter Night's Dream: Tudor secrets

An evening event in the enchanted darkness of the Hunting Lodge. Your ticket includes a taste of Tudor Hippocras and a sweetmeat, a talk about Tudor Christmas customs and a hushed wander in the magical world of the Hunting Lodge. Watch out for the unexpected!

All tickets include a glass of wine or non-alcoholic drink, Hippocras, and talk.

This event is aimed at adults and older children over 12 years.

Please note, all attendees - including children - require a ticket.

Other events and activities

Many other organisations hold events and guided walks throughout Epping Forest (licensed by the City of London).

Epping Forest offers many opportunities to enjoy various sporting activities, including walking and running, cycling, horse riding, angling, football, golf and athletics. Almost 100km (60 miles) of surfaced and un-surfaced trails provide access to woodland, ponds and open country with a variety of flora and fauna.

We run user forums for those who enjoy a particular activity within the Forest including anglers, cyclists, dog walkers, horse-riders, runners and walkers. Find out more about our surveys, consultations and how to have your say on Epping Forest.

Field Studies Centre

The Epping Forest Field Studies Centre in High Beach offers a wide range of courses for adults, children and families across the whole year. Courses offered for adults include all aspects of the local environment, learning about the countryside, its wildlife and the environment. Many are suitable for those wanting to find out more about the local area and some for those with a professional interest. Courses include, Spring and Autumn Walks, Discovering Bats, Discovering Wild Flowers, Painting and Drawing in Epping Forest and Natural History of Veteran Trees.​
